Here is the list of the fifteen things we “prophesized” in December 2022 that we would achieve by December 2023, and how we measured up:
1Hire a Development Officer, to focus on individual donors and foundations.DONE! Though still in the initial stages, Michael Stoltz of Chicago, former Director of Development for Ariel University and staff member in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s bureau, has been working with us since September 2023.
2Hire a Christian Outreach marketing manager, to expand Root Source’s reach worldwide tenfold.DONE! We have retained Josh Frampton, a professional social media marketer, to lead this effort, at first focusing on the Light Up The Church project and then on our War Needs campaign.
3Host next year’s Bridgebuilders program. We were guests at the Nations’ Ninth of Av Shabbat in Jerusalem and Gala Dinner at the Israel Museum, and honored 15 bridgebuilders at our Honor Reception in McKinney, Texas in October 2023.
4Continue supporting the Institute of Midrashic Studies of the New Testament. This program is proceeding very nicely, with seven fellows since its inception and growing relationships with seminaries and universities.
5Publish four new titles on Root Source Press, including the LIST 2021 (and the LIST 2022!) which are already in the very last stages of production. We launched The LIST 2021 in January, The LIST 2022 in July, and the Shavuot Symposium Proceedings in December 2023 at our Hanukkah Symposium.
6Continue to publish and upgrade our newsletter. We have over twelve thousand subscribers and have delivered close to a million emails! With an open rate averaging 25%, very high for our industry. (Subscribe here)
7Host quarterly Zoom events. We hosted the LIST 2021 launch in January, we launched The LIST 2022 in July, and launched the Shavuot 2022 Symposium proceedings during our Hanukkah 2023 Symposium in December.
8Do “Jewish Outreach,” through live lectures and Zoom, to encourage Jewish teachers to join Root Source. We are still not ready to aggressively recruit new Jewish teachers, so this project has been on the back burner.
9Pending the success of our Christian Outreach efforts, we aspire to have 100 teachers by December 2023.While we did retain a Christian Outreach (Social Media Marketing) Director as noted above, we still haven’t grown our list enough to aggressively recruit new teachers. We hope 2024 will see a change in this for the better.
10Work towards localization of Root Source for communities in Africa, China, India, and more.We were introduced to a number of Chinese leaders, but none have yet expressed enough interest to move this project forward.
11Expand the Root Source Conversations podcast project, interviewing fascinating people from all over the world. We have grown this project significantly, expanding our list of regular guests from one (Dr. Richard Booker) to four: Alan Latta, Jason Caplan, and Jeff Hutcheon, high-powered Christian advisors to top CEOs. Very interesting!
12Market The LIST series to libraries. We were given a grant to pursue this by the Nathaniel Foundation, we plan to work on this in 2024.
13Work on upgrading the audio and visual aspects of our courses. We did some “behind-the-scenes” upgrades on our website.
14Engage with like-minded activists and organizations to launch joint educational ventures. We were guests at the Nations’ Ninth of Av Shabbat in Jerusalem and the Gala Dinner at the Israel Museum.
15Create gumroad widgets for our courses.Deferred to 2024.
16Probably welcome another grandchild or two into the family:-).We’re letting the existing seven get used to one another:-)
17Accomplish other things I haven’t thought of yet ;-).Quite a few! See below.

Besides the above, we accomplished the following:

1War Needs Fundraising CampaignOur Root Source friends responded generously to our campaign, contributing over $18,000.
2Media AppearancesDue to the Hamas War, Gidon was interviewed on a number of media platforms. His interview on CBN connecting Light Up The Church with the war netted over 350,000 views on YouTube.
3Oct 15 GalaWe maxed out at 100 guests at our Honor Reception, raised over fifty thousand dollars(!), honored fifteen Bridgebuilders and our hosts the fabulous Victoria and Paul Sarvadi, and had a marvelous time! See you next year!
4USA TripOur first trip since COVID was very successful. Besides our main gala Honor Reception event (see separate entry), we visited Kansas City and New York City and met with over a hundred old and new friends.
5Hanukkah SymposiumWe held this successful program, the third in our annual series, and are working on publishing the proceedings as we did with the 2021 and 2022 programs.
6Light Up The Church 2023Thanks to our Internet and Social Media Marketer Josh Frampton and a viral interview with Chris Mitchell on CBN News (over 350,000 views!), Light Up The Church 2023 reached nearly 400 churches, ministries, businesses, and home groups!
7Shavuot Symposium Proceedings bookWe published the proceedings as a book, gave each presenter a copy, and offered it for sale on our online store.
8The LIST 2021 and The LIST 2022These were published and launched in January and July respectively.
9FundraisingWe raised over $122,000 through Givebutter.com fundraising campaigns since January 2023 (over 490 unique donations!) from over 200 friends of Root Source. THANK YOU ALL!!! This includes grants from our friends at The Nathaniel Foundation and the Carson Myre Foundation.
10FoundationsIn addition to grants from our friends at The Nathaniel Foundation, we were awarded a new grant from the Carson Myre Foundation and submitted two grant requests to the Jack Chester Foundation.
11TrainingWe participated in the world-class Leadership Institute’s Fundraising School in Jerusalem, and the annual Hebrew Bible (Tanach) Conference in Gush Etzion.
12StoreAs of this writing, you can buy thirty books and products in our online store.
13Advisory BoardWorked with our active Advisory board of 23 close friends and Executive Board of seven members. (Want to join? Contact me!)
14Mazeltov!There are no new grandkids this year but enjoying the seven immensely!
