Lesson 1: Ma Tovu (Entering the Synagogue)

Gidon Ariel now teaches the prayer of Balaam, which is prayed as one enters the synagogue. He explains that this is the first and only prayer in the Jewish morning prayers that was written by a non-Jew, and yet it has a place of high honor.

Gidon also explains that this prayer is closely accompanied by the speaking of the prayer to: Love your neighbor as yourself.

Bob’s Application:  This lesson is very reminding of the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5:23-24 when Christ says  “Therefore if you are presenting your offering at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering”

Jesus was saying that you must deal with your relationship with your fellow-man before you can come into full relationship with the Father. The Jewish principle is the same, and they put it into practice by speaking it every time they enter the synagogue. Let us do the same when we come into the meeting place, and attempt to enter into the presence of God wherever we meet with fellow believers.
