God: The Jewish Image. The Song of the Sea

The splitting of the sea would be on anybody's list of classic miracle stories. The Israelites spontaneously sung the Song of the Sea after witnessing and experiencing the miracle. God is described in the song as a 'Man of war'. Is this a new image and what does it mean?
