Lesson 2: Vineyards of Shomron
David tells the story of how vineyards came to Samaria to fulfill Jeremiah’s prophecy: ‘Again thou shalt plant vineyards on the mountains of Samaria’ but were told by experts in the government that it wouldn’t work.
Bob’s Application: I remember that Christian bumper sticker from years ago. It read “God said it. I believe it. That settles it.” For bible-believing Christians it is easy to say, but we never know how much we actually believe something until that belief is tested. Testing the unknown is even harder than a testing that goes against clear advice and instructions of others, and the most difficult testing comes when the experts say “don’t even go there”.
For sure we must understand God’s will and be sure that we are applying his Word in a relevant way to our situation. But occasionally or at least eventually all of us have had or should have the opportunity to stand upon the truth of His Word, against the statements and advice of men. So let’s take care to make sure we are interpreting it fully, getting wise council, walking in community, open to the leading of the Spirit, walking in the light of truth, not caught in any snare in some area of our lives — but eventually — not afraid to stand upon his Word as the bedrock of our beliefs above all else.
