We have made 2 trips to Israel in recent years.  We were last there in January of this year.  Having been there before, I thought I knew what to expect, but this year we started our trip at Independence Hall in Tel Aviv and the whole tone of my trip changed.  I was impressed about the miracle that IS Israel, how many things had to be in place at the right time for Israel to even become a nation.  As we continued, and I heard more miracles that occurred in the various wars, and as our tour guide talked about the prophecies that are being fulfilled in modern times (the desert blooming with new life, etc) I started wondering what else might be transpiring there that would be awe-inspiring, and a proof that God is still in the miracle business.  Any thing you can share with me?  Thanks so much for your time and input.

This is such a beautiful testimony Pam, and so timely, as I am answering it on Jerusalem Day, June 5 this year.

The famous miracle you mentioned parenthetically is no small flippant thing! There is no country in the world better than Israel in making the desert bloom.  Mark Twain, the famous writer of the 19th century, and many, many less known travellers, described the vistas of the Holy Land as the most barren they could imagine.

“….. A desolate country whose soil is rich enough, but is given over wholly to weeds… a silent mournful expanse…. a desolation…. we never saw a human being on the whole route…. hardly a tree or shrub anywhere. Even the olive tree and the cactus, those fast friends of a worthless soil, had almost deserted the country.”

Now compare this to the verse in Ezekiel 38:6:

But you, O mountains of Israel, you shall shoot forth your branches, and yield your fruit to my people of Israel; for they are at hand to come.

Another constantly quoted prophecy that clearly has been realized in the State of Israel is the regathering of the Jewish People to its Land. This prophecy has been written numerous different times and ways int he bible, perhaps the most famous is the Dry Bones, Ezekiel 37:1-14 (text taken from

1 Yahweh’s hand was on me, and he brought me out in Yahweh’s Spirit, and set me down in the middle of the valley; and it was full of bones. 2 He caused me to pass by them all around: and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and behold, they were very dry. 3 He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”
I answered, “Lord Yahweh, you know.”
4 Again he said to me, “Prophesy over these bones, and tell them, ‘You dry bones, hear Yahweh’s word. 5 The Lord Yahweh says to these bones: “Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and you will live. 6 I will lay sinews on you, and will bring up flesh on you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you will live. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.” ’ ”
7 So I prophesied as I was commanded. As I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold, there was an earthquake. Then the bones came together, bone to its bone. 8 I saw, and, behold, there were sinews on them, and flesh came up, and skin covered them above; but there was no breath in them.
9 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the wind, prophesy, son of man, and tell the wind, ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “Come from the four winds, breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.” ’ ”
10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up on their feet, an exceedingly great army.
11 Then he said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost. We are completely cut off.’ 12 Therefore prophesy, and tell them, ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “Behold, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, my people; and I will bring you into the land of Israel. 13 You will know that I am Yahweh, when I have opened your graves, and caused you to come up out of your graves, my people. 14 I will put my Spirit in you, and you will live. Then I will place you in your own land; and you will know that I, Yahweh, have spoken it and performed it,” says Yahweh.’ ”

There are so many ancient and modern prophecies that have come true int he State of Israel, that I am surprised no one has yet created a website mapping prophetic verses to newspaper headlines! I have asked some friends to consider starting such a list:-)

Meanwhile, here is a great book that includes a list of 700 verses that point to these and other miraculous realizations of prophecy:
