If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me; And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept the punishment of their iniquity: Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.” Leviticus 26:40-42: What is the “iniquity of their fathers?” This passage has often been used by Christians as a prayer of repentance for generational sin in the family bloodline.
But could it be that there is another dimension to that phrase? Could it be that the message for today is that it is time to apply these verses over the Church at large?What IS The LIST? It is a very detailed view through the window of time into the sins of our Church forefathers committed against the Jewish people throughout Christian history. The LIST is comprehensive, thoroughly researched, and almost overwhelming in its scope in revealing the depth and depravity of the sins of our Church forefathers.Reading through The LIST can be likened to attending a familiar and well-loved church for a long time, only to discover a staircase leading down to a previously unknown basement. As I walk down the stairs I am engulfed in darkness. What should I do? I could just go back upstairs and “ignore” the basement.
Instead, I look for and find the light switch (that is, I read The LIST). With the basement now bathed in light, I realize that it is a chamber of horrors and torture that has been used against the Jewish people. In MY basement. Of MY church.
