This week we read Noah (the “h” should be pronounced more gutturally, like you are clearing your throat), Genesis 6:9 – 11:32. The second portion of Genesis, we read mostly the story of the Flood, but also a bit of Noah’s life story; the population of the world with the 70 nations descended from Noah; the story of the Tower of Babel (maybe you didn’t know: Babel is identical to Babylonia, modern day Iraq); and the ten generations from Noah to Abraham. (Next week, we shift gears from universal stories to focusing on the Children of Israel and their forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.)

This week’s Prophets reading is from Isaiah 54:1-55:5. The connection to the Noah reading 54:8:

For this to Me is like the waters of Noah: As I swore that the waters of Noah Nevermore would flood the earth, So I swear that I will not Be angry with you or rebuke you.

But as usual, I highly recommend reading the entire passage. It talks about God’s everlasting love of Israel in spite of their sins, and they will be redeemed!
