Jerusalem, the eternal city, certainly has earned its title. It was around even before Avraham was called by G-d to Canaan, and it has witnessed the rise and fall of ancient Israel and all the empires that have marched through it ever since. Today it is thriving, rivaling ancient Temple times, housing more than one million inhabitants. But Jerusalem today, under the sovereignty of the reborn nation of Israel, is facing perhaps its greatest challenge ever, a challenge to civilization at large: the violent claims of Islam, which seeks to extinguish the light of Jerusalem forever.
